Green Waffle

Sunday Brunch at Green Waffle

This little diner does waffles best. They offer wholewheat and buckwheat waffles, and they are really good. Everything else is just ok, so stick to the waffles.

I did notice Chicken and Waffles on the menu! And while I've been known to do that from time to time, I know it won't be right without a side of mac and cheese and sweet tea.

Rocksalt

Things I love: days off from work, beach, burgers, new restaurants, and my favorite holiday in HK is Dragon Boats. Before we hit the races, we fueled up at Rocksalt.

The food all around was really good, and to top it off the price was just right. Places like that in HK tend to overcharge for average fare. They were also nice enough to hold our reservation because we were late due to holiday traffic.

The burger was really good, the fries with sour cream and sweet and sour sauce were very tasty, and the citrus cole slaw was very refreshing. Thumbs up for this burger.

It's also located on the main drag in Stanley with a view of the water. Nice work Rocksalt.

Frites

Weeknight pre- A Team movie dinner at Frites!

This restaurant is fab because it has an old school feel. Doubly fab because if you order dinner before 7 pm there are some really great specials. One of them being this steak and a glass of wine!

The mussels looked really yummy as well, so that's a must for next time.

Hakka Ye Ye

Weeknight pre-World Cup dinner at Hakka Ye Ye.

Everything on the menu sounded really good, and they have quite an extensive menu with good vegetarian options as well.

For starters, we kicked it off with some pork which was really good.

Shiok Update

Heard through the grapevine that Shiok is now closed. And so is the life cycle of a HK restaurant.

Sh!ok

A Sunday in the life of a Hongkonger: Brunch with a friend, a walk around the hood, coffee and reading, pick up a few things at the grocery store. Walk through your door. Try and figure out what's for dinner when another friend finds you and says let's grab some grub.

Since just about all of my friends here are expats, we can use comfort food as a regular excuse to get together. Even if the home comforts are not your own. Ting was craving Singaporean food, and I love to be dragged along in food exploration. So a few of us gathered for dinner at Sh!ok to try it out for the first time.

Real Bread Cafe

Usually I'm drawn to one thing at a restaurant, and no matter how hard I'm tempted during return visits, I always go back to my usual. If you've eaten with me, it's easy to pick up my habits.

If there's avocado on the menu, 99.99% of the time I'll order whatever that dish happens to be. I work down from there.

But I'm pretty sure I've ordered something different every time I've visited Real Bread Cafe. Or maybe it's because I've dined each time under different circumstances.

My first visit was two summers ago. I remember because I had long hair and I arrived sweating buckets. We shared dinnery sort of things. I went again last summer for a hangover brunch (and after chasing a taxi all over town for a friend's missing phone). Followed by a repeat visit for a weekday lunch. So it's one of the few places that I've visited for brunch, lunch and dinner, weekday and weekend.

On this particular brunch visit I opted for something with a strange name, but I got it because there's a little bit of everything.  Some fresh fruit, yogurt and muesli (kind of an obsession), eggs benedict with salmon instead of ham, and a plain and almond croissant.

Koh Thai

Happiness is exploring new (and old) restaurants, and since this place is always moving and shaking, there's always a new place to try out.

Koh Thai, in the middle of the madness is located right on Wyndham and a great spot for people watching. We opted for the view rather than the above cozy lovahz booth. Maybe another time.

La Cucina Italiana

It's Friday night, a visitor in town, and looking for a new place to dine.
We land in La Cucina Italiana

Cafe Punta del Cielo

Another newish coffee shop on the block: Cafe Punta del Cielo

Reasons I like: location, it's Mexican, and the bottom line, it's tasty. The few times I have been there I have ordered a double espresso or variation of: espresso cubano or espresso mocha. All strong and wonderful.

I've yet to try the tres leches cake, or the cupcakes, or the epanadas, or any other wonderful food they have behind the counter but I'm sure it's fab too.

Oh yeah, they also have free wifi and one al fresco mesa.

Blue Smoke BBQ

A new restaurant has swung into town, and it's about as real deal as $$ can get you.  May I present Blue Smoke BBQ

About 12 of us gathered for a "family" dinner at this new establishment, and we had been preparing all week to stuff our faces.  So, we didn't hold back.  With heaps of food and refreshments, this dinner cost us about $400 HKD.  If you dare to eat here, be sure to wear your stretchy pants.  No joke.

Tofu & Veggies w/ Rice - Fruit Stop

Takeout Lunch at Fruit Stop

This place is very good because it's close to work, opts for healthy ingredients (no MSG!) and even puts a calorie count on the menu. Nutritional information is hard to come by here. I wish there were heaps of veggies, but this again is also hard to come by. Pretty decent though.

I think my only real complaint is they don't have any fruit, at a place called Fruit Stop.
